Sustainability and Global Warming

Most people are aware that our home - Earth - has gone through cyclical changes of cold to warm and back again. Along with these normal changes to our planet, her poles have also shifted and wobbled (archaeologists use these wobbles as a dating tool called archaeomagnetic dating). Since our planet is going to warm and then cool anyway, what's the big fuss? The fuss is the amount of carbon being released into the air - amounts higher than any other time in this planet's history. Most people are aware that humans and many other animals do not breathe carbon dioxide. We need oxygen. Plants breathe carbon dioxide. Why do I bring this up? Well, because the human obsession with capitalism and money has lead to the rapid destruction of the very "machine" which provides us one of the most important resources we need - oxygen. Team this with our desire to operate machinery dependent upon fossil fuels increases the amount of greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

My partner and I recently purchased property in New Hampshire with the intention of self-sustainment. Gardens, solar green house, a couple chickens and ducks, solar panels, compost piles, environmentally friendly toilets and water collection equipment - leading toward our goal of sustainability. No, humans can never eliminate carbon emissions - just by breathing we pass off CO2; however, we can become more responsible with our actions - particularly since we are increasingly aware of the consequences. I may not have children of my own, but I feel obligated to leave a healthy planet for yours and for the other sentient beings who reside here.

I have designed a bumper sticker with a simple, yet important message - Support Sustainability. If you like this message, feel free to click the image for more details.
